Spring 2020
With an idea to create new choral works during the global pandemic, Geung Kroker-Lee, Laura Hawley, and Katerina Gimon came together to form Sonic Timelapse Project (STP).

Summer 2020
To begin the creative process, conductors across Canada were invited to submit a Creative Reflection that encapsulated their emotional state within the context of the global pandemic. The process consisted of identifying two contrasting emotions that represented what they were experiencing and expressing them through a medium of their choice (poetry, journaling, sketches, etc.).

August, 2020
Ten composers across Canada joined Sonic Timelapse Project to use the conductors’ reflections as raw material and inspiration to each compose a new choral work, with the aim of funding these works using an innovative crowdfunding campaign allowing choirs and conductors to share resources in a time of need.

October 2020
The crowdfunding campaign and project participation opens October 1, 2020. At the beginning of the campaign, funders will have immediate, exclusive access to:
  • Two brand new works (available to funding Tiers 3 and up)
  • Materials for a virtual self-directed Sonic Timelapse Creativity Workshop (video and rehearsal plan) focusing on engaging choristers with the creative process

November 2020 - June 2021
  • New compositions and additions to the New Works Video Library will be released the first day of each month.
    • Sonic Timelapse Community Members in Tiers 4 and up will be able to view digital perusal scores via a password-protected members’ portal and select which scores to redeem.
  • Conductors/choirs in Tiers 3 and up can contact Sonic Timelapse to redeem their chosen scores at any time during the Sonic Timelapse project (October 1, 2020 to June 1st, 2021).
    • Example 1: Choir A has selected Tier 5: Sing Four. Choir A redeems one of their four pieces right away, and then waits until April to see all scores before choosing the other three
    • Example 2: Choir B has selected Tier 9: Choral Hero. They have committed to one composer's new work, and can redeem their three other selected pieces at any time.
  • New Sonic Timelapse Works will be released as follows:
